Nancy Sherwood Truitt

Nancy Sherwood Truitt has an extensive background in the for-profit and non-profit sectors, where she has focused on the role of business in development (from micro to multinational). She has also worked to strengthen think tanks in the third world.

Ms. Truitt has filled multiple roles at The Institutional Center for Economic Growth, where she trained economic policy think tanks (worldwide) in strategic planning and communication. She also edited their quarterly newsletter on economic growth and was instrumental in fundraising.

She served as a Senior Advisor for the Tinker Foundation, where she managed economic policy and governance programs (strategic direction, proposal review and project evaluation). For the Instituto Libertad y Democracia, a leading Peruvian think tank, Ms. Truitt provided her fundraising skills, as well as her editing and public relations expertise.

Ms. Truitt served as the Executive Director for the U.S. Business Committee on Jamaica, where she worked with business and government to promote tourism and investment. She was also the Executive Director of the Fund for Multinational Management Education, a policy research think tank that focused on the role of business in development. She also served as Coordinator of Special Programs for the Americas Society.

She has held staff positions at the Fund for Multinational Management Education, International Development Foundation and the U.S. Youth Council. Additionally, she was a consultant for the American International Life Insurance Co., International Nickel Company, Sears, Roebuck and Co. and Universal Oil Products.

Ms. Truit's work has appeared in multiple publications including: (1) "The Business of Think Tanks" (a CD-Rom co-produced with the World Bank), (2) "Think Tanks in Latin America" in Think Tanks and Civil Society, (3) "Mass Merchandising and Economic Development: Sears, Roebuck and Co., in Mexico and Peru" in Service Industries and Economic Development, (4) op-eds in the Wall Street Journal, training videos and articles.

Ms. Truitt holds a MBA in Management/International Business from New York University, Graduate School of Business and a BA in Political Science (Cum Laude) from Stanford University. She is an active volunteer, having served, among other positions, as a director of ACCION International and as chair of the board for nine years.
